Resuscitation's Ostinato opens with field recordings of volcanic eruptions and gradually moves into a persistent repetition of the phrase "Wake me up!" There is such a precision in this climatic repetition, that it often feels like a mantra, repeated over and over again as an aid to meditation or prayer. The voice grows bigger and stronger ever so slightly with every recitation, allowing the listener to be in sync, just like a breathing exercise. Likewise, in the video, Venus embarks on a therapeutic journey through the Icelandic nature. She invites us to come along with her and explore its spiritual mystery. Like a High Priestess, she breathes in landscapes and breathes out sounds that turn into melody. The Icelandic nature is terribly beautiful but it can also be dangerous. You have no choice but to pay respect. It forces you to follow its sacred laws. You can't resist it or it'll crash you like an ocean wave or lava flows. Directed by Lefteris Parasyris Music by Venus Volcanism Mixed by Nikolas Gale Mastered by James Savage Released by Submersion Records Venus Volcanism is a vocalist, musician, and sound explorer from the island of Crete, who has been based in Iceland's northernmost town, Siglufjörður, for over 2 years. Written and recorded just 40 km south of the Arctic Circle, her second solo album "TISSUE" is a sound journey where nature's sequences and structures are explored through field recordings, captured in her newly discovered Icelandic surroundings. The term tissue derives from the Latin word texere, which means to weave. Throughout the album Venus intertwines repeating patterns of sound, consisting of ethereal vocals, synthesisers and slow arpeggios, with natural soundscapes; the crescendo of an active volcano in Fagradalsfjall, bubbling mud pools in the geothermal area of Seltún, the ebb and flow of Dýrafjörður's ocean and haunting echoes of frozen lakes and migrating birds. "TISSUE" is a sonic heterotopy, suspended between the tangible and surreal, where nature's vibrations and cyclical patterns are woven into the artist's introspective journey of coming to terms with her own scar tissue.
